- App Technology in the Classroom Exercise:
- Choose five (05) mobile applications that you would use to teach math, and/or science in an elementary classroom. The adjusted deadline is Thursday, 12/3/15! In class, we addressed five important criteria that you need to use as a guide when selecting applications for this exercise. When you are ready, select a panel in VoiceThread where you think your comment belong. There are four panels: iOS Math, iOS Science, Android Math, Android Science. The criteria to be used are:
- Choice: There needs to be an element of choice of many fundamental strategies, or multiple entry points that allow for multiple exit points, instead of ‘peripherals (i.e.: car color, boat speed, etc.)
- Recording: There needs to be one, or several ways to record and submit individual as well as group contributions such as, calculations, solutions, ideas for trial and error.
- Interaction: The app needs to be able to offer 1:X (One to many) ways to reach the answer, or finish level: many ways of learning and therefore practicing, many strategies to reach the goal, many entry points and many exit point.
- Problem Solving: The app has to offer opportunities for children to engage in solving a problem in many different ways.
- Questions: there are some additional questions to ask yourself in addition to the research that you will run to find five apps for this assignment.
- Is the app easy to understand?
- Is it easy to use (i.e.: little to no distractions that are unrelated to the how the app works in the tablet/phone)?
- Does it allow you to adjust the settings to meet individuals needs?
- Does it focus on mastery before fluency (avoid apps that have a primary focus on speed).
- Post: no need to post your list to your website as your answers will be recorded in VoiceThread!
