Through this assignment, you will be able to build an online presence that meets the needs of accessibility for families and students alike. In your case, you will use your website to communicate with your instructor as well as your classmates throughout this semester.
First, Create an account at http://wordpress.com
First, remember to access this page as a resource to build your final design – it will change in content and design as the semester develops.
Here are the pages that you will need to have before next class. There might be additional pages that are assigned after class starts:
1. Build one home page from a “post:” add a greeting, an image, or a quote. Something that tells your families and students (in our case, your instructor) what your site is about. In your case specifically, you might want to greet visitors who are your fellow students, or outside class colleagues;
2. Build nine “pages” (these are tabs for your menu) with the following titles:
- OSN (*Online Science Notebook)
- Game Project – Proposal
- Game Project – Final
- Children’s Literature
- App Project
- Unit Plan – Proposal
- Unit Plan – Final
- Lab Assignments
- Contact Me Page
3. “Contact Me” Page : same idea here, you can customize it to read, “Talk to Shilpa,” or “Contact Cam,” or just plain “Contact Me.” You will see that the form offers different ways to customize your form, but the simpler, the better. Remember that we will all use this form to be in touch with each other, so make sure that you check the e-mail account that you used to set up your wordpress site frequently!
Finally, please send me your final address by the end of class so that I can add it to ivillagecentral.com!
Enjoy, and please do not hesitate to ask questions along the way. If you like someone else’s site, and you like what you see, you can contact him/her and ask how they designed elements that you would like to have on your site. Jayleese, Jason, Kelsey, Cam, Jenn, Katie, Lauren, Ryan, Shawdee and Shilpa also have a site, so after it’s up, you can do the same. I am always available as well!
